Hawkins wins best poster at CSM

At the America Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting, Kelly Hawkins, DPT, NCS, received the poster award from the Spinal Cord Injury Special Interest Group of the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy. The poster was titled, “Transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation with locomotor training to alter spinal excitability post-spinal cord injury,” which came from her dissertation work within the “Energize” study.

The Energize study is a pilot study that is investigating the use of transcutaneous spinal direct current stimulation, a mild, non-invasive electrical stimulation, when combined with locomotor training on walking function in individuals after incomplete spinal cord injury. Her work presented within this poster focused on the study’s use of reflex testing to investigate for changes in spinal excitability and modulation following this intervention.
